安博体育 Student Earns Prestigious National Fellowship

安博体育 student Bethany Weaver has received a prestigious Newman Civic Fellowship for excellence in the classroom and community.

安博体育 student Bethany WeaverWeaver, a student on the Palm Bay campus, is among 262 students who comprise the 2019-20 fellowship winners.

Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education, gives the honor.

鈥淏ethany represents the very best of our engaged students who combine significant service to the community, leadership and outstanding academic work,鈥 said 安博体育 President Dr. Jim Richey.

鈥淪he is a great example of the spirit of 安博体育, and we congratulate her on this very impressive achievement.鈥

Weaver is an Honors student, Core Scholar and Citizen Scholar. She is active in student government and serves as a Peer Tutor and Green Dot Ambassador.

She is also deeply involved in community efforts that address poverty, homeless and the environment.

Her civic work includes helping deliver vital supplies to orphanages in crisis in Haiti and Honduras.

The experience gave Weaver what she called a 鈥渞ush of global reality鈥 and inspiration to spend her life serving others.

The Newman Civic Fellowship, named for Campus Compact co-founder Frank Newman, is a one-year experience emphasizing personal, professional, and civic growth for students who have shown leadership and problem solving.

Fellows have a variety of learning and networking opportunities, including a national conference of Newman Civic Fellows in partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate.

The fellowship also provides fellows with access to apply for exclusive scholarship and post-graduate opportunities.
