A recent survey has found that Americans rank swimming as their number one sport and that inground pool sales continue to increase annually. The survey by the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association in North Palm Beach, Fla, showed 94.4 million Americans rate swimming as their favorite recreational activity. Walking was listed by 80.9 million. At the same time, the National Spa and Pool Institute estimated that 150,950 pools were sold in 1997 and 172,184 in 1998, for a 40.5 percent increase since 1994.
