Steve and Donna Dodson founded their first Construction Company in 1982 –

The company was located in Palm Desert, California –

In 1994, the company expanded to include an office in Temecula California.

This enabled the company to cover all of Southern California.

The company completed thousands of swimming pools, spa’s, and water features.

Contracts where both residential and commercial.

During the 1990’s -Barbecue cook islands where added, to complete back yard environments – each custom designed to unique specifications.

The Dodson’s enjoyed an excellent reputation-

Completing as many as 500 projects a year 

Many of their designs have been acknowledge over the years by the National Spa and Pool institute – including the International “Best of Show” Award – along with many Gold, Silver and Bronze design awards over the years.

They have been featured in many magazine articles, including Palms Springs Life.                             They have a swimming pool award, on display in The Swimming Pool Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – and in a Book of the:  Top 100 Pools in US History.

In 2003 the Dodson’s relocated to the Big Island of Hawaii.

Leisure Island Grills LLC was founded in December 2003. The first six months was nothing but R & D – testing products and materials that would withstand the harsh elements here in Hawaii.

Their Barbecue Grills and Cook Island’s are currently featured on the “Cooking with Cutty” television program- being broadcast on OC 16 daily.

Several local chefs and resturant owners, have custom designed cook islands, as well as barbecue grills, in their personal homes and well as their establishments.

Leisure Island Grills has completed projects on all Islands – with Complete Cook Islands shipped to  

All the Hawaiian Islands

Kona Hawaiian Village/Fairfield Resort –(retrofitted 10 barbecue islands – removed and replaced grills and cook top surfaces where needed)

The Fairmont

Classic Resorts Hawaii

Completed several $30,000 plus – Custom Outdoor Cook Islands at private residents in Hauali and Kukio – gated communities.

In 2007, after many clients of Leisure Island Grills in Hawaii, who knew of the company on the mainland, requested that Steve design and complete their swimming pool projects. – and after much consideration, the Dodson’s decided to put their construction knowledge back to work –   Kona Kai Pools LLP was up and running with several projects now completed, and more under way, on the Big Island.
